Entangled Love: Love that Binds, Love that Frees (Free Workshop)

By Emily Blefeld, LICSW & Dan Cohen, PhD

At the center of Seeing With Your Heart and woven through everything we’ve ever taught, there’s a meeting point we return to again and again.

Love.

Love is a binding invisible force. You can’t quite hold it up under a microscope and say, there it is, and yet it leaves evidence everywhere.

“Love is hard to believe, ask any lover. Life is hard to believe, ask any scientist.” ~ Life of Pi

Dan and I have tried, of course, to understand it from multiple angles. Science maps the chemistry (dopamine, oxytocin) to track its existence. Cultural and familial patterns hand us scripts about what love should look like, who gets to have it, how it’s supposed to unfold. And art… art tries to recreate the feeling that love invokes, over and over again. It’s said that most songs are about love, which makes sense when you realize we’ve been trying to express and translate the experience for centuries.

It is biochemical, yes. Behavioral, yes. Patterned? Undeniably.

But when it’s felt…

When it’s actually alive in you…

Love has the power to rewrite any story, to move mountains within and to awaken the awe and wonder of the life that your soul came here to live.

“Where there is love there is life.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

And what we know with absolute conviction, is that when love leads, healing follows.

A Chapter on Love in Malta

At the Constellators International 2026 Retreat in Malta on the Chapter of Love, Dan and I had the profound honor of offering a keynote workshop. Gathered among facilitators, healers, and wisdom seekers from around the world, we entered a shared exploration of love in its many dimensions. We left nourished by connection, inspired by community, and reminded of what becomes possible when hearts open together.

As part of our journey, we visited the ancient temple sites of Malta, among the oldest known ceremonial structures on Earth. Built between 3600 and 2500 BCE, these remarkable temples were aligned with celestial cycles and filled with symbols of fertility, regeneration, ancestry, and the sacred feminine.

Remembering Who We Are

Walking through the Mother Goddess Temple, I felt something move through me. It was as if the boundaries between earth and sky, life and death, past and future, human and divine dissolved. I experienced a deep remembering.

Like many people, I know the quiet voices that whisper: You’re a disappointment, unloveable, too much, not enough… in essence, you’ll be rejected if you show who you really are. Childhood wounds, ancestral ruptures, and the imprint of persecution can shape how much of ourselves we allow the world to see. They often become invisible loyalties to belonging at the expense of authenticity, true love, and purposeful impact.

Yet standing within those ancient stones, I remembered that I matter.

I remembered that my voice, intuition, and soulful presence are part of the Great Mystery’s blueprint. That I (and you) are goddesses incarnate.

The temples seemed to echo a simple truth: when we embody love, we give others permission to do the same.

Perhaps this is one of the great invitations of our time. To loosen our grip on old stories of unworthiness. To honor the wounds that shaped us without allowing them to define us. To stand in the fullness of who we are, connected to our ancestors, our humanity, and the living pulse of creation itself.

Love is not merely something we receive.

Love is something we become.

And when we do, we help liberate the hearts of those around us.

Questions for the Heart

What are the beliefs or narratives about love in your relationships?

What would your heart say if it were asked what kind of love it would like to experience?

Where might you be repeating something in relationships that didn’t begin with you?

Within our personal love stories and relationship patterns, we can find a cast of ancestral characters and plot twists that have been played out over multiple generations. And yes, they spill over into our lives too. The sweaty palms, and the deep desire to look away amidst uncomfortable conversations reveal the inherited patterns and ‘rules’ that conditional love has been abiding by.

But with these stories, we can also find pathways to disentangle what’s been stuck, afraid, and shutdown so we can expand into a love that doesn’t ask us to trade truth for belonging.
