I spent much of my life looking forward to turning 30 years-old because, as I told my parents many times as a child, that’s when I would finally be “my true, fully expressed self.” This notion was persistent throughout my life with little explanation except the basic interpretation that I enjoyed adult conversation over games, women’s jewels and dresses over kids clothes, and freedom to create over meaningless homework.
“When a caterpillar hatches from its egg, it devotes itself to eating. When it knows it has had enough, it stops eating and begins to spin its cocoon. Inside the cocoon, its body dissolves. All the ingredients needed to transform itself into a butterfly are already there.” - Laurie Blefeld, Moments of Grace For the first time in human history, people on every continent, in every nation are being asked to self-isolate and practice social distancing. We are tucked inside a cocoon spun by a collective whirl. In the sudden grounding of all the world’s airlines, canceling of all community events from sports to funerals, shuttering of shops and restaurants, closing of schools and workplaces, humanity as a whole (with the exception of medical and essential workers) has become still and quiet. In some ways, it feels to us as if everyone is standing in representation in a Systemic Constellation facing or resisting the process of dissolution and transformation.
On New Year’s Eve, Emily and Dan greeted the new decade with a night out at a downtown restaurant, followed by a small gathering with our closest friends and family. As is our tradition, we wrote down our personal, professional and shared intentions for the year. Dan boldly predicted that the 2020’s would be the “best decade ever.” In just a few weeks, sprouts began to form. We started writing a book, launched the Seeing with Your Heart Immersion program in 3 cities in Brazil, transitioned our private practice to new platforms, and began to prepare our training curriculum for facilitation at events in Australia and New Zealand. We were on our way and so thrilled about the “clear vision” of 2020!
