Andrea Gibson Tribute: August 13, 1975 – July 14, 2025

This spiritual tribute blog is a  place to share energy that’s overflowing as gratitude for the impact that one artistic and courageous soul has had on our world, and on me.

We are honoring a poet that left a legacy, a reverberation of words so raw and alive, that the world is grieving and celebrating their talent, in equal measure.

A New Ancestor on My Altar

It’s an honor, on my birthday (July 21), to place you on my altar as a new ancestor, a mentor who will go on in and through me, and the many hearts we touch. To write your name on our site and offer your poetry as a gift. To feel the rawness, the realness, and the rapture that only you, Andrea, could summon.

As I place your photo and art in sacred space, I find myself wondering, do you know how many tears I’ve wept over the years, reading your words, receiving your transmissions, and tucking your truths into the quiet, shadowed corners of my heart? Do you truly know the impact you’ve had on me? How your courage has guided me to care more deeply, to share more openly, and to meet the world with greater vulnerability?

The Art of Letting Grief Speak

In my experience, there’s a true art to finding language for what we feel, particularly when those feelings reside in the unseen realms. Andrea had that capability. They knew how to let grief speak in its full voice, unhidden, unashamed. They could speak to wild beauty as it bloomed tangled in the cracks of humanity. They brought precision to aspects of the sacred that only comes from listening to something beyond the veil.

Portals, Not Performances

Their poetic performances were portals. Invitations to feel more, not less.

Andrea didn’t ask us to rise above our pain, they asked us to descend into it with reverence, to meet it at the roots.

To find the light that hums quietly underneath.

When in grief, illness, mortality, and love, we never stood alone.

Andrea met us there and helped us to let those places sing.

They didn’t turn pain into spectacle.

They invited us to take off our running shoes and be with it. To accompany it.

To access it as living prayer.

A shared devotion

We are proud to say that our values at Seeing With Your Heart echo Andrea’s devotion to truth, reverence for feeling, and radical tenderness. We are honored to know that we walked this Earth at the same time and that together, through the ethers, we traced the roots of discomfort and learned to trust our heart as the door to the temple of our Truth.

I think about the Seeing With Your Heart community, and how many of us carry gifts that don’t always fit inside traditional language or practices. What I love about Andrea’s writing is how their voice gave form to what lives in the marrow of the sensitive ones, the intuitives, the lovers of language and longing.

They gave us permission:

  • To be too much.

  • To sob in public.

  • To make art from ache.

  • To step outside the constructs of “normal” and

  • To lead with softness and not apologize for it.

  • Their words whispered to the part of us that has always known:

The heart is not a weakness. It’s a compass. And it’s time we let it lead.

In a world that often values composure over vulnerability, Andrea moved in rhythm with their soul, elevating the emotional and offering it a crown. And in doing so, they reminded us that our hearts are not side notes, they are scripture.

Beyond a Tribute: A Vow

So as we reflect on our gratitude for their weaving of words, we’re realizing that this might, in fact, be more than a tribute. In many ways, it’s a vow, and this year, it’s a vow I intend to take in full form on my birthday.

To Andrea Gibson, whose poetry will continue to echo through every soul who has ever felt too tender for this world and dared to speak anyway.

And to those of us who are trying to find our voices in the dark –

I believe Andrea left us a trail of light. We only have to follow the beams of light they left behind.

Through the legacy we co-create, may we take up the call Andrea offered:

To feel more.

To speak as if our hearts are holy ground.

To write as if the veil is always thin.

“My love, I was so wrong. Dying is the opposite of leaving. When I left my body, I did not go away. That portal of light was not a portal to elsewhere, but a portal to here. I am more here than I ever was before. I am more with you than I ever could have imagined.” ~ Andrea Gibson, Love Letter from the Afterlife
